Mommy and Daddy’s side the table
Anya and Kailan’s side of the table
We’re not alone right? Our kids won’t eat steak, veggies are hit or miss (mostly miss) and they will just randomly choose to dislike something that one day they couldn’t get enough of it. At this meal Anya only ate the caprese salad after I threatened her with her blankie. After one bite she finished the rest of the tomato and fresh moz slice. Success!
At least Kailan is starting to eat meat (aka protein). I did try to get them to eat veggie burgers at one point to get them to eat some non-meat protein, and that was a no-go. Oh well, we’ll keep trying and eventually I hope they start to have taste buds and like food.
Seriously, I don’t think kids have taste buds!
You’ll never believe I have two that love asparagus, broccoli, turnip greens and steak. Last night since my hubbie was gone we ate tacos and then the two that will eat anything had leftover steak for dessert. But then we decided it needed to be something sweet later and had brownies with ice cream on top.
yum yum

My kids love steak and most veggies. I know I’m lucky regarding that. But things like casseroles, anything spicey or with obvious herbs, no will do. I have to make things pretty plain or conceal it. I use lots of onion and garlic powder.
You’re not alone at all, when our two hooligans were the ages of yours we had one that would eat lots of different things and one that wouldn’t eat anything that wasn’t a chicken nugget or cheese lol. Now that picky one is still pickier than some but he did broaden his horizons a bit to include pizza! 😉

I think scientifically that you ARE right! Kids DON’T have taste buds. Well not as WE know them anyway 🙂
Some of them also have a thing for textures I’ve noticed! the Small Boy will eat chips and roast potatoes but won’t touch boiled or mashed!!!! The BA was painful for years and I ended up cooking two meals for some time. Her only form of protein was peanut butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree. My kids are hit and miss. Last week they LOVED asparagus, this week it makes them gag. So frustrating!
Hahaha! Yep! My toddler’s side of the table consistently contains mac-n-cheese and PB&Js! But yea… they outgrow it. My oldest has a wider taste range. 🙂
hahaha. Can I come over for the adult dinner, please?! 🙂
My kiddos are actually kinda weird- they love real food. Adam LOVES steak… and veggies… and he LOVES real moza! We actually had a chicken salad, with buffalo moza, for lunch. Yum-o!
But seriously, I’m inviting myself over. 😉 haha.
My kids plates always look like a smaller version of my plate when we start out…but by the end of dinner when my plate is empty and theirs is just picked at you can tell how picky they are. I compromise by trying to make meals that I know that they like, but I refuse to fix something different for them. They can eat what’s on their plate or just not eat. I’m mean like that 🙂
I’m mean like Alissa ! ha ha. But, now, at 6 and 4 … they will eat almost anything I put in front of them with (minimal) argument. With the exceptions of mushrooms. They DO NOT like mushrooms !
this is so my life. someday i hope we all eat one meal. but the wine is just for me…
We had steak and broccoli for dinner tonight and salmon and asparagus last night. Harrison gobbled both meals down. he would love the fresh tomatoes and mozzarella!
Oh, I love this capture of life with kids! I need a bottle of wine on my table!! And, can I come for dinner?! That all looks fabulous. Your kids don’t know what they’re missing. Nadia defintiely has her picky times, but in general she’s a pretty good eater. I don’t make seperate meals for her. It’s often a fight to get the first bite past her lips, but then she realizes it’s not so bad and eats more than required to get her treat.
At 10, 10 and 13…mine still have no taste buds. BTW only you could make a hotdog look delicious. 🙂
