Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I have been trying to get to bed at a decent time. You know before 11:30 or so. 😉
On Saturday we went to see the LIVE! experience of Walking with Dinosaurs. Brian was in charge of the tickets, and initially we were only going to have him and Kai go to the show. I thought Anya would be too scared, but we talked to her about it. Basically, we said, “You better not be scared if you go because these tickets are really expensive!”
Well, maybe not in those words, but we really wanted to make sure she wasn’t going to be afraid. She said, “I not afraid. I like dinosaurs!”, so then we went ahead and got tickets for all of us to go. Brian scored some pretty expensive good seats, so we had a little row all to ourselves in the third open row (the first four or five rows were closed due to huge, gnarly dinosaur tails going into the audience area).
I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to bring my camera in, but they let me through. They didn’t want video camera’s to come in, although my camera was at least as big as some of those new fangled ones nowadays. After the lights went down they said no flash photography, so I was glad I had my wonderful DSLR. I did however have to shoot at 1600 ISO and f1.8 to get shots to turn out. It was a little dark in the arena. Of course, the rule of no flash photography was summarily ignored by most of the populace. Because, you know, at that distance…the flash works SO WELL.
I didn’t get any good pictures of the kids because it was dark, dark, dark, AND I brought my 85 mm lens thinking I was going to be far away. That wasn’t a problem, plus they were huge! I couldn’t get far enough away from the kids to get decent shots of them in their seats and the ones I did get were blurry due to the ssslllloooowwww shutterspeed. I really should have brought my 35mm f2.0 lens, but the SS would have still had to be super slow.
Both kids really enjoyed it – Kailan loves these shows, me thinks. He really enjoyed Nemo on Ice and really liked this one. Maybe someday we will take him to a movie, because they are much cheaper. 😉
Here are some of my favorite shots from the show.
Yes, they were BIG.
Yes, we were close. 🙂
Was that too many pictures?? 😉
No, never ever too many pictures. These rock…you should be photographing their promo posters.
My crew and I would love to see a show like this. And way to go brave Anya!
Is there really such thing as too many pictures? My husband, father and nephew saw this show and totally loved it.
Oh no, there is no such things as “too many pictures”! You did an excellent job. Those images are stunning! Like Melody said above, they should pay you for them!
Was Anya afraid? Cuz I know I would be!! hehe
wow! Those are awesome!!!! You should have heard Adam over here. He is freaking out. lol “more mommy! I want to see more!” I think, in person, he would have been terrified.
Those are GREAT pictures!
I can’t believe Anya dug it. One of my girls would have been afraid. That’s cool though. They moved around and everything?
Thanks ladies!
No, Anya was not afraid. Only when the t-rex roared loudly did she get a little concerned. She climbed on my lap around that point, but she didn’t seem afraid at all. I made sure she had her taggie blankie with her for her comfort factor since I though she might be a little afraid. She was sucking her thumb and holding it a lot, but she didn’t seem afraid, just fascinated.
They moved around on these moving platform things. The legs moved on the platform, so it looked like they were walking. For the smaller raptors and baby T-rex, there were people inside them and walking the suits, but I think the heads and tails were animatronic.
WOW they look scary to me – that’s great that everyone had fun! 🙂 They are huge!!! 🙂 great awesome pictures! My fav is the 3 together, it looks like they “struck a pose” LOL
Wow those pictures turned out great, without the flash. 🙂
I’m glad they both had an excellent time and Anya did not get scared. It’s so hard to tell what’s going to scare kids and what’s not. We went through this brief period where W.W. was absolutely terrified of the lawnmower.
Looks like a great show!
we saw the show earlier this year, and we all loved it — a very cool production! i, too, was super annoyed by all the people taking flash photos. i kept glaring at the person behind me ;). love that first shot of yours in sillhouette — glad no one was scared, either :).
These are great. It looks like it was a really good show. The colors came out really good, having it been so dark.
Wow, that is so cool!!!! I be the kids had a blast!
Too many pictures? Never.
These are incredible, Stacy, I can’t believe the quality pictures you got under those conditions. I don’t even see any noise, and they’re so sharp and clear! I think the first 2 are my favorites. If we could just get the show’s producers to see these, they’d be buying them for their posters!
So glad the kids did well, it’d be hit or miss with N. One day she’d love it, the next be terrified.
NEVER!
They are really great photos – my Em was looking over my shoulder as I was looking through them and she said, “Hey Mom! Can we go there??” It looks very cool!
Wow. Just wow. It must have been a fun time; and those pictures…did I say wow, yet?
Oh what fun! My boys will probably LOVE this when they are older!
And, too many pictures??? Not possible! Awesome shots…especially that first one!
How cool! That show passed through here a few weeks ago, but I thought that the boys would be too young to enjoy the show for what we would pay for it. And the youngest has a terror of loud noises….which would not have been helpful.
The shots you took turned out amazing! And it sounds like a good time was had by all!
Oh, thanks everyone! Just so’s ya know…I was lazy and just used Picasa to edit the pictures. If I were to blow them up I would have to reduce the noise on them. They would have some noise at that high ISO. 🙂
these are wonderful. I too am shocked not to see noise. WOW!
Oh, wow. These are SO COOL!
