Well, this trip didn’t go exactly as planned. We had a bit of a snafu on Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4. Day 1 went well, though!
On the way, we stopped at the 1880’s Town. It was pretty cool with all the different old buildings.
Then we tried to get in to see one of the deactivated missile silos. Unfortunately, they had given out all of the tour tickets for the day, so we missed seeing it. This was pretty much par for the course for us this trip.
Next, we went through the Badlands. Anya opted to stay in the car for most of the scenic views. It was about 95 degrees outside, and she was being a bit petulant that we were not staying in the air conditioned car the entire time.
We finally made it to Rapid City around 5pm and checked into our hotel. It had a pool with a slide, so the kids were pretty excited about that. I didn’t think they would have much of a chance to use it due to all the plans we had for sightseeing.
Oh, how wrong I was…
Having a Bach in geological engineering and a minor in geology, I never get tired of seeing the Badlands, those pink and yellow formations are amazing!!!
So sorry to read about your husband’s ordeal… A family we know went on vacation in SD & the husband passed away due to a heart attack in the middle of the night, very sad. He was 50 & now the wife is a single mom to several children. It was good to hear that your story had a happy ending.
