Getting the kids to sleep when we aren’t at home is usually a trying event.  There is just too much fun stuff going on, and they DO NOT WANT TO MISS IT!  Friday night was no exception.

The kids didn’t nap much on the way to Cumberland, so we thought we wouldn’t have a problem getting them to sleep.  Yet again our children proved their parents wrong.  It is an annoying habit they have.  We put them to bed at their normal bedtime, at which point Kailan decides to talk to himself…loudly.  He was definitely keeping his sister awake, since how could you sleep next to that annoying loud person??

After going upstairs several times, they finally calmed down and fell asleep.

We proceeded to go to watch the band at the festival and drink a few beers.  We came back to the farm around 12:30-ish and put our very tired bodies to bed.  Around 3:00 am Anya had a coughing fit that woke her up.  She started crying, so I went in to comfort her and hopefully not wake Kai up.

Unfortunately that didn’t happen.  Kai woke up and started asking for daddy (a.k.a. screaming for him in a barely understandable whiny voice)…of course, that was after I told him that it was still bedtime.  I put Anya down and Brian came in to relieve me.  Kai then started asking for mommy, since daddy said it was bedtime, too.  He seems to think we will have different answers if he screams loud enough.  Of course, now the whole household was awaken.

Finally, we just gave up and let him cry it out.  We couldn’t get him calmed down, so he just needed to work through it.  Now Anya was really awake.  Kai would scream and cry, and once he took a breath, Anya would say “KAI!”.

In short, “Kai, shut up!  I want to sleep!”

Eventually Kai gave up and we all were able to get a little shut eye.  Come morning everyone was a bit tired, but they slept really good on Saturday night…in their own beds, and most importantly, separate rooms!
