Yesterday was a good day. We had to take Kailan for his pre-kindergarten screening appointment. Despite having scheduled it on the day that there was a city-wide open house for the fire stations (think lots of people and no parking spaces!), we managed to get in there on time. Barely. Kailan passed all the tests with flying colors and they said he was ready to go next Fall. Yay!
Then we left the mad house and went to a park not to far away. The kids had to wait on the playing until Mommy got a family picture. We haven’t had a family picture since Christmas, so…it was time! I set up the tripod and used my remote to get these shots.
Then the kids got some quality time running around on play equipment and swinging. By the time we left it was after 1 pm, so lunch was a bit late. In keeping with our no going out to eat rule, we went home and made some burgers. We sat on the deck and enjoyed our burgers (ours with feta cheese on them…yum!) and the beautiful afternoon. The kids wanted to ride their bikes, so we went for a walk around the neighborhood and I got some pictures of the beautiful Fall colors. When we got back we decided to go get some pumpkins since today was supposed to be rainy. Later we had a fire and smores. A good end to a beautiful day.
Sounds like a delicious day!
I especially love the second family picture.
I never know what your hair will look like from season to season and I must say I especially adore it right now – lots of shine!
Are these your Christmas card pictures? 🙂
I really love fall colors… may I print your last shot for my desk at work to remind me of the sights outside the dreary walls?
Such a gorgeous family! And what a lovely day you had.
My husband and I were talking about doing the same thing.
The remote must be the key. I was thinking that it would be hard to run- push the button and than run back.
It could be done- but not worth it.
Oh, GORGEOUS!!! What a handsome family, too!!
What a perfect day! I love that second shot of you guys…I need a family pic too!! Hoping to get that done soon! And absolutely STUNNING photo of those gorgeous fall colors…I’m jealous…we don’t get much of that organgey goodness around here!
What a wonderful family day! What a great family shot!! 🙂 And I love those leaves. Fall can be so beautiful!
I love the first portrait the best of the two; and those leggings! I want some! You live in such a beautiful area.
Oh, what great photos, fun to see you together as a family–and you in front of the lens instead of behind!
Took a ton of photos this weekend, loving the fall colors!

That sure sounds like a great day! And very full!
(kindergarten screenin almost a year in advance? huh)
Such a great group photo, I just love the colors.
It sounds like a great day! You can’t beat a day with the family. Love your photography!
Fabulous family shots.
Great family picture! I was thinking about that too, we haven’t had one in wow, I’m not sure I remember the last time. Usually I’m editing pictures together so everyone’s there. 😉
Great color in your shots though. Fall trees and leaves make a great backdrop.
How exciting about kindergarten too! Glad he passed the screening with flying colors. I hope he’s excited too.
I know my family picture would never turn out that well. What a beautiful family!!
Hi, I happened across your site a few days ago looking for a contrasty BW conversion and I have to say I love your images and the no nonsense tutorials so thanks for those. Also I have been pining for a D300 also but after seeing your work with a d50 I may hold off just a little (lot?) longer ( my wife thanks you for this!). If you have time to answer I was just wondering what basic camera settings you prefer to capture your initial image. I don’t mean the exposure settings but such things as sharpening, tone comp etc. Thanks in advance, Lee (in sunny England)
What a handsome family. That day sounds idyllic.
Holy crap I am behind! Look at all of these beautiful fall images. It really sounds like you had a great family day. Burgers on the deck, campfires and smores in the evening….From one second to the next, wonderful. Oh ya, and the family shots are great too. I gotta get me a remote. 🙂
That sounds like the perfect day! love your family photos too. 🙂
