So who thinks this has been the longest election in history??? I can’t wait for tomorrow…Election Day. Thank the good Lord up above. I am so sick of political ads that I could just spit.
I’m sure most everyone is getting out the vote, and if you aren’t then why not??
It may come as a shock to some people who read my blog and don’t know me in real life, but I am a Republican. Yes, Republican’s do breastfeed, make their own baby food, recycle, are not all homophobic and care about the world around them. Shocking isn’t it. The main stream media doesn’t really represent us very well. Or AT ALL. We aren’t evil…really we aren’t. We just don’t like big government and have a different point of view on some important issues.
I think most of us Republicans are resolved that Obama will win…not that we won’t be voting. 😉 I’m not looking forward to the higher taxes and the Fall of Saigon 2.0 in the pullout from Iraq. I’m really just hoping he won’t wreck the economy like Carter did in the late 70’s. Do you remember the insanely high prime rates and a stagnant economy? Clinton raised them in an economy on the rise, so it didn’t hurt as bad. Carter raised them as the economy was going down the toilet and made it worse. I hope we can learn from history, but I highly doubt it. Too many people want things that cost a lot to money and don’t care how they get it.
Yes, Obama, we are living the American dream. We came from bankrupt farm families, worked our butts off at college, which we paid for ourselves, and actually want to be able to give to our kids opportunities we didn’t have. Now you want to punish us for success that we worked so hard to achieve, as if we don’t already pay a ton in taxes. Thanks.
*sigh* It’s going to be a very painful four years.
***I’ve written and re-written this post so many times, and this is a toned down as I can get it. Sorry! 🙂
you summed up my feelings as well.
I agree with you. 100%
And I think this is the first time I’ve EVER publicly commented on my political views.
I couldn’t agree with you less, but I respect your opinion.
I do think it’s very interesting that you feel that the mainstream media portrays you as evil. For the last 8 years, I feel like we Democrats have been portrayed as athiests and baby killers.
I applaud you for posting your political affiliation and giving a refreshing view of Republicans. I’m thrilled to see that someone is a Republican because they agree with their governmental policies…and not for the social reasons.
By the way, I enjoy your blog. You are a fantastic photographer.
Considering I’ve already voted, I’m looking forward to no more hateful mudslinging television commercials. I honestly think those are the worst part of the whole election process. Somehow they really destroy the idea of everyone, regardless of party, getting along and living together by creating this terrible dividing line among people. Really I think they are aimed at making people feel guilty about voting for so and so. And I just think that’s wrong. The idea people should have free choice gets so destroyed by all the propaganda.
Gee, there’s my rant. 😉
So yes, I’m glad tomorrow is the end or the beginning or whatever it may be.
Thanks for the comments – I was a bit afraid to post this. 🙂
Mike, I see where you are coming from, too. I think as it relates to the news, we tend to see the negative where our ideals and ideas are being bashed. From my perspective, I have seen the opposite. I think our perceptions make it a reality to some extent. After 9/11 it was definitely more favorable to the Republicans, but that tone changed once the war started spiraling downward. It seems, to me, that the news coverage was very skewed pro-Obama. I think that is a bone of contention that most will disagree with each other on, but as an example…My father told his very Democrat sister to watch Fox News for a week and then they could have a discussion on why he was a Republican. She’s now voting for McCain. I think everyone’s views have been shaped by where they are getting their news.
Killashandra, I totally agree with you on the ads. I do feel like there is this divide between liberals and conservatives from all the bashing on both sides. Like I said, I can’t wait until all the ads are GONE!
I’m glad you weren’t afraid to voice your opinion. I have always voted Republican, but am just overwhelmed lately by the 2 party system. I wish that I could vote for a 3rd party candidate without feeling like my vote won’t count. I’m still not sure who I’ll be voting for tomorrow, but it won’t be Obama. Our pastor had a great sermon yesterday and reminded us that no matter who wins, God is still in charge. So whoever is elected, I’ll pray that God will give them the wisdom to lead, and really the most important thing to me is that whoever is elected, they are elected fairly. I worry more about voting fraud and bad machinery than anything else!
Amen. I’m a fellow Republican and have kept my views to myself. It really feels like we are few in this blogging world.
I’m voting first thing in the morning, with my kids, before I bring them to school, because it’s important. Even if it seems like we won’t win. You never know!
Tracie, I agree. I think both parties are flawed. There is so much corruption and all those entitlements that happen, which just make our government go further into debt. In the end we will survive whatever happens, and we have to trust that God will give our leader wisdom. If I thought there was a chance a 3rd party – middle of the road – candidate would win, then they would get my vote.
Margaret, I have noticed that very few conservatives have voiced their opinion, too. Since I was afraid to voice mine, I don’t wonder at that at all. People can get very “passionate” about their views. 🙂
I too could have written this post. I feel much like you do. 🙂 While I am neither Rep or Democrat, as I tend to fall somewhat in the middle, I am leaning toward the reps this time for most of the same reasons you posted (the going to college, working hard and getting punished for it really hits home for me too…its a sticking point that moves me to that side of the election). So, I had to respond to let you know that you are not alone.
Oh Stacy..THANK YOU for coming “out of the closet”!! I’ve been dying to write about the election, but too chicken for fear of retribution by the Obama fans! I am right there with you, 100%!!! It is sooo frustrating to know that a lot of people just don’t get it (about taxes, Carter, etc) because they believe only what they are hearing in the mass media who don’t portray things fairly!
I’m still hoping for a “Dewey beats Truman” type of upset…but, told DH we need to make sure to have plenty of alcohol in the house on Tuesday night so we can soothe our wounds!!
AMEN!!!! Glad to see you put yourself out there on this issue!!
Hey – I knew I had a lost twin out there somewhere (though you must have gotten the creative genes)…
I’m one of those non-publicized Republicans too – recycling, non-homophobic, breastfeeding, etc. And I really care about making sure I know as much about the issues as I can stand. It boils down to WHO is the leader I most trust to get us through this looming/current crisis… change is going to happen no matter who wins.
Thanks for posting this. There’s a few of us Republicans coming out of the woodwork – and no matter what, there’s no excuse not to vote!
Girl I am sooo with you. And you did well with your words. Carefully chosen =)
I am Republican too..altho I have no trouble voting for whichever party has the best candidate. But I think Obama will lead us down a Socialist path that we’ll all be sorry for.
I have not posted anything political on my blog for fear of shunning lol. I know it comes up at my job and it Always is an argument.
And yes. I breastfed my children for the first year, made my Own diapers and babyfood. lol.
Tomorrow peeps. VOTE!
I’m a fellow Republican. And thank you for stating that we are not all evil and closed-minded. Honestly, I think this election is going to be kind of sad no matter who wins. It doesn’t seem that either candidate is worth getting too excited over. It feels like choosing the best of the worst. Oh well, I am just ready for it to be over and to get on with facing the consequences either way.
Thanks so much everyone for the polite discourse. 🙂 It will definitely be an interesting night tomorrow. Jaimee…we will have the alcohol at the ready, too!
Can I just say… AMEN sister. lol
Girl, you did better than I would have. The term antichrist comes to mind….
I’ve steered clear of the topic but I’m still praying and still voting for the American choice.
there,
i’m done.
julie
As you can tell, I’m not nearly as eloquent….
just had to add that.
I’m with you all the way…breastfeeding and all.
julie
you want a rant I will give you a rant!!! Naw it just ain’t worth it.
I as a former Democrat turned non Republican, absolutely hate what the liberal left has done to the Dem party….And what big money and greed has done by producing the 2 party system is just sad.. But I gotta say Kudos to you Stacy for giving such a concise summary of a very dismal situation. Have you ever considered throwing your hat in the ring????LOL If you couldn’t dazzle us with foreign policy, you could win our hearts with your great photography……
I am so ready for this to be over too. I have complete avoided the news over the last few weeks and I am so happy about that–no more stress and tension over the economy/presidential race, etc. Whoever wins, life will go on. Maybe not the way I want it, but can do this again in 4 years. Yippee!
I am late in coming here, but I wanted you to know that I 100% agree with you. I think, lately, us Republicans feel like we shouldn’t be allowed to voice our opinions. I have been approached by so many people who voluntarily tell me how much they hate W, they can’t wait to get rid of him, Obama will save us, etc etc etc. And they say it as if their opinions are fact, not “opinions” and as if I would obviously agree. But no, I don’t agree.
Yes, he is now going to be our president. And, honestly, I hope I am wrong about him. I have nothing against his color, but I have everything against the liberal party ideals. I just don’t believe that all my hard work, my discipline when I was younger, should be punished because those who didn’t care about school, who didn’t care about being responsible, who didn’t save money to buy a home, who don’t save money now, are now expecting the government to take care of them with MY money.
I’ll never forget when I was in college, and graduate school (which I paid 100% on my own with school loans that are now completely paid off), and I was up late at night studying when I SO wanted to just go out and have fun. And I would see others, who never bothered to even try to get into college, and they were out having fun day and night. And all I could think is that it isn’t fair, because those people are going to look at me someday as if I don’t deserve my success and that I should be sharing my success with them. And that is NOT fair.
I just hope things will get better and not worse. But I as much as I hope, I am not sure I believe they will.
Well, we can still be friends, can’t we:)
Politics is a tough thing to discuss with people unless we know exactly where we stand with them so I applaud your political post. It takes guts to say how we really feel about something. And it takes more to say, “I don’t agree” and do so respectfully.
My hope is that the days of “It’s us against them” politics are over. We are all going to have to work hard to fix the problems that our country is facing and it may be worse before it gets better. That would be true no matter who won the election last night.
I stayed out of this election, taking the easy way out, since I am actually overseas (though I know my friends were doing the absentee ballot thing :p ), and I was so happy to be out of it. It really was picking the best of a bad situation. 🙁 I don’t even know which party to identify with…I have strong leanings to both Rep and Dem. And strong issues with both sides, as well.
Anyway, just wanted to throw in my kudos…I agree with you completely. I have not talked politics at all this election, because I am not in a position to deal with being bashed by the Obama supporters. Does it tell you something that I was honestly surprised how close the popular vote was?? I had had the impression, from all the media, and other bloggers, forums, etc, that the US was overwhelmingly Obama supportive. I honestly had no idea there was that much support for McCain, because my only information came from people who spoke out..which translates to people not in a position of being scared of being beaten down, which I witnessed many times, whenever a McCain supporter DID speak out. 🙁
Now that the decision has been made, all I can do is cross my fingers, and hope all this faith is justified, and our nation WILL be better. And if nothing else, history has been made within my lifetime, and THAT is something to celebrate.
What a fantastic discussion! Well done Stacy for sparking such a well mannered and thoughtful post and follow-up! I have a totally different perspective to Irene and others I’ve heard on the same topic. I replied to your comment over on my site and I think I may go now and write an expanded post. Thanks for sparking my thoughts and having the courage to express yours. No one should have to fear being ‘bashed’, even verbally, by an opposing point of view 🙁
I love you Stacy.
