Anya dropped this little toy over the edge of the stair gate and was attempting to get it out. A very frustrating moment for her. It is so fun to watch a child’s little mind develop as I gave her guidance about turning the toy so it fit through the bars. Every experience for a child is something that makes them think and learn.
I’ve recently happened upon your blog and I am so enjoying your photography and your beautiful children.
Please tell me you have lots of huge windows or share your secret on how you get that gorgeous quality light in your photos at home.
Leanne
Hi Leanne…thanks for visiting!
Part of it is the room, this was taken in the front part of our house that is south/sun facing. Part of it is also the camera…and the camera lens. I use a Nikkon D50 DSLR with a 1.8 apperature/50MM lens. Basically the lower the apperature, the more open it is to the light. You have to compensate with a lower shutter speed, though. It’s tricky, because the lower the shutterspeed, the slower the camera takes the photo, and when you have toddlers…well, you can guess that I get some bad photos! I tend to shoot all in manual…and believe me it has been a learning experience! It is very much trial and error, with a lot of research. I have a link to the I Love Photography forum down on the side, and just reading posts there has given me a lot of good information. I usually go to the Just Starting Out forum, since that gives the best information for us “newbies”. 🙂
It was a big investment buying the DSLR, but after becoming SO FRUSTRATED with my point & shoots constantly blurry photos, I needed a new camera for my sanity. I am more than happy with my purchase and have used a lot.
Oh, and another thing is learning how to edit your photos in Photoshop, or even Picassa helps. I find that most photos need to be lightened up, even a little bit, and sharpened. Picassa can do that, too, and its free…even better! I started with Picassa, graduated to Photoshop Elements and now I’m going to soon start with the big Photoshop CS2 program. I’m a little scared of it, but with practice I will learn how to use it.
I hope that helps! 😀
