So…yesterday we went to Lowes, to check out the Venetian Plaster paint they had there. The paint lady told me not to do the paint treatment where it would get wet, so that pretty much nixes it for by the countertops. That means that we should have some sort of backsplash. Okay.
We venture over to look at the countertops first and are bedazzled by the quartz, but there was also a very nice laminate that looked like stone and cost 25% of the Quartz. I likey. I really want to have a bar where people can sit at, since the space is there for it. I don’t know why they didn’t do that originally, and I would love to have it. Plus that would mean a new sink and faucet. 😀
Then we went over to the ceramic tile and put together this great setup to go with the laminate (on the paper below). It should go well with the color scheme.
This low cost renovation is quickly adding up!
We got the wallpaper taken down and most of the primer on the walls. We had to patch a few holes in the wall from the inept builder. These were covered up by wallpaper…nice, huh? Yet another thing in this house that was done by someone who didn’t know how to do a decent job. Now, I’m not a carpetenter, but we have plenty in our family and friends and have done a bit ourself. I think we know a crappy carpenter when we see their work. Seriously, WHAT THE HECK??
We also switched our coat closet with our pantry. Our house is very messy right now, and not looking to improve anytime soon. Once I get the Valspar Tuscan Finish on the walls and the soffit painted I will feel a bit more under control. Then I can get my computer set back up again, because we had to take it off the built in desk so we could rip out the wallpaper and paint.
Brian found a copper sink at the Home Depot I need to take a look at, so hopefully by the end of the week we will have the kitchen plan figured out. One thing I already know is that it is going to cost a lot more than originally planned! We had some money we are setting aside for it, and plan to do most of the work ourselves. Still, not really what we originally planned, but I spend alot of time in the kitchen and would love to make it all purty. 🙂
Oh, and Brian was a bit tepid at my plan for putting crown moulding on the soffit and painting it the same color as the cabinets. Well, lo and behold, one of our favorite HGTV designers, Candace Olson (Divine Design) did the exact same thing on an episode today. I think he’s sold on it now, because if Candace does it, then it will look good. Great minds think alike! 😉
Anya and I took a breather outside and played in our warmer than average temps. It almost makes up for the negative degrees we had this week. Almost, but not quite…I’m DONE with the super cold. Bring on SPRING!
I also got one more thing accomplished this weekend that was rather hard to do, but I knew it was time. You will have to wait for Thursday for that one, though. 🙂 Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Ooh, like that tile. That’s gonna look lovely up. And I think that’s one of my faves of the princess. I love the perpective.
Ugh… don’t you love when people try to cover up their mistakes?
At least it will look much better when you’re done – and it’ll be your style too! So excited to see the finished product!
(Congrats on your warmer day! It snowed again this morning and then rained the rest of the day!)
I really can’t believe those holes in the wall! Some contractors are really tacky!
Remodeling is great when it is finished, but the process can be not-so-fun. Look to the finish!
I bet you did need the breather after the kitchen work! However, trips to Home Depot inevitably add up and it never quite comes out as being as low cost as you thought it should be. We have many adventures like that too. Although the tile pattern looks good. Definitely should match with your paint palette colors. 🙂
YOU deserve a nice kitchen to work in, with all you produce in there! I am inspired by you and we are kind of working on something similar, too. Why don’t they give free kitchens to nice people who LOVE to be in them? 🙂
Lovely plans for the kitchen! A copper sink…ahh, heaven!
Looking forward to seeing it come together~
🙂
I am going to live vicariously through you. Your kitchen plans are turning more lovely by the moment! I can’t get over those holes, tho. LOL!
Man, you guys are making some good progress. I can’t wait to see the final product. Just looking at your plans makes me want to remodel something. It’s going to look so good. That last photo of Anya is beyond adorable.
THe best laid plans and all that! Love the photo too.
Cheers
Argh! How well I remember remodeling projects. Good luck. Love the tile you’ve chosen.
A is simply more breathtakingly beautiful each day. How old is she now? I’ve lost track.
Such a great picture. How sweet. You do the best B&W’s. Are you shooting B&W or post processing that way? I love it and really need 4 B&W photos for a frame collage I got for my birthday.
Julie
Just home for the holidays and wanting to catch up on your kitchen renovation (looking for inspiration perhaps?). One good thing about being ‘behind’ is that I don’t have to ‘wait’ for the next installment 😀
