Theme Thursday: DIY (Do it yourself)
Hopefully this one isn’t too hard!
When Brian went to order the laminate, they calculated the amount and it was determined that the price per linear foot that the dude gave us last Saturday was incorrect. The installers that they use charge about as much as if we were to have quartz installed. Thus, the no brainer decision to install quartz!
This is the color we chose. The gray specks in it should bring in the blue from the bottom cabinets quite nicely. They look more blue/gray in person that the chip on the website. We’ll see what the slab looks like once we get it installed.
They came out to the house and measured, so in 3 weeks and some change we will have our new countertop, sink and faucet. Although we love the stains and scratches in the cast iron sink, and the hard water build up on the faucet, we must replace it with a new one when we change out the counter. Dang.
We are getting a 40/60 split stainless steel sink, since the copper didn’t really match well enough. Definitely not another cast iron sink. NO, THANK YOU! This is the faucet we chose, and it is fittingly called “Tuscan Bronze”. We are also doing an undermount sink, which will be so much easier to keep clean. Lowes is installing all that, and we just need to do the plumbing. “We”, as in Brian. I have faith in you, Honey! 🙂
The Valspar Tuscan Accent paint is on the wall, and looks fabulous. The paint lady made sure that I knew I just couldn’t paint it on in one step and be done. I assured her I was a faux finish maven, since most of my rooms take a good three days to paint. It’s a bit time consuming, but most things that look nice usually do require a bit more elbow grease. It’s worth it in the end. The soffit is painted, as is the moulding, and most of it is up on the soffit. It looks fabulous! Now we just have to fill in a few spaces between the wood and the wall, so we need to get some sort of caulking for that.
Brian got our holes nicely patched, so after several days we were able to clean the kitchen. All that sanding is messy, messy, messy!
We also got our new light up, which is basically a track light. We like the style, and we put additional lighting under the cabinets cabinets (plug-in) lights for when it is needed. We only had to rewire the light once, too! Brian is a pro at putting in lights. I think the only original lights that are left in our house are the overhead fans/lights in our bedrooms.
The organizing stuff came in the mail this past week, so we are keeping most of them on ice until we put everything together in the end. I also got these countertop cannisters on sale at JC Penny for my flour, sugar and brown sugar. It will replace the pretty plastic containers they are in right now.
Somehow we got that all done this past week. Now, we’ll start removing the doors and sanding them down. Hopefully the weather will hold somewhat and we can get the primer on them. We should have the cabinets completed before the counter comes in. It’s all coming together!

Just a few pictures from last week…
Hope everyone had a great weekend! 🙂
Where do I start? Love the pics – of course Anya is utterly captivating. And congrats on the remodel progress! Love those cannisters… had considered them for our own kitchen! 🙂
Gosh that quartz is beautiful! I’m daydreaming about our own (hopefully) impending choices!
Have a great Monday!
Hi Stacy! WOW!! Remodeling the kitchen? SO MUCH FUN – and so much work too!! Sounds like you guys are FAST! I don’t have time to catch up on everything right now, but I’m excited to see how your kitchen turns out!
Sounds like you are coming right along with the redo. I have that same light in my kitchen.
It is so nice when you can start seeing things come together during a remodel! Best wishes on sanding, sanding, sanding! 🙂
I am so looking forward to this kitchen update! I am hoping it will inspire Himself to allow me to do something to our jaded kitchen cupboards. In my spare time. (hysterical laughter)I wish Himself was handy with lights. A website and a blog banner are about the limits of his DIY skills. 🙁
I reeeeally hope I have time to do theme Thursday this week. Reports are due Wednesday so here’s hoping.
I love the composition of the photo of Anya.
You guys do not mess around. I am seriously impressed. I can’t wait to see it all come together. I would love to have an undermount sink. That is a must next time around.
Wow, girl. Fabu kitchen. I love the faucet.
Does Anya miss her hair?
Sanding is messy.. it just somehow creaps on to EVERYTHING! Dusty dusty… Loving how your kitchen is coming along… the colors are so warm and inviting… really really gorgeous, Stacy!
Enjoying your pics from the week too… the shadowed outline of the tree…wow! and your sweet lovie girl is just so precious! Love her curious eyes 😉
Hugs and Happy Monday!

Wow! It is really coming along! Love, Love, Love the canisters and what a nice surprise about the quartz! 🙂
Yeah for track lights! When my husband re did the bathroom at my parents house he put in track light and then added more it for them too. It makes for such nice lighting. Sounds like things are moving ahead well. I’m so envious of the new kitchen. I would love to get rid of the obnxious white cabinets in my kitchen, but then it’s one of those things that if it ain’t broke why fix it. Building a well house around the irrigation well because the horses keep knocking the cinder blocks over really should be a priority. 😉
I leave for Chicago on Thursday. I’ve got a hilarious post for your theme scheduled. My husband reinforced his redneck streak the other day and then called me a dork after I took a picture of it and told him I was going to blog about it. LMAO If you could link me back I would greatly appreciate it.
Gorgeous choices for the re-do. Can’t wait to see the completed kitchen.
P.S.
I am so trying not to make that chocolate cake below. You know, a moment on the lips…but it sure is tempting, er dangerous is a good name for it.
I really like that new light! That’s super cool!!!
It just gets better and better! Your kitchen is going to be magazine-worthy, Stacy!
