I’m afraid Kailan is all boy in that respect.

Here are some examples…

We have a mini climbing wall on our super-deluxe-we-were-so-glad-it-came-with-the-house-outdoor redwood play contraption.  This wall has proven to be difficult for the children to master, resulting in much adult assistance and pushing little butts up the wall.  This past week we may have mastered it.

Anya got up there the first few times with a little assistance from me.  After that she wanted no part of the pushing up the wall, and said, “I can do it!  Let me do it!”.  Really, she didn’t have to tell me twice, as I was glad to not have to do it anymore.

Kailan ended up like this the first time he tried.  He had a bit of angst about me taking a picture of him in this predicament and not instantly running to help him along with a little butt push up the wall.

After he saw that his sister was doing it all herself (in a dress no less!), he felt some man shame and decided to attempt it himself.  At which point he decided that I needed to tighten the screws on all the holds because they moved too much.  After making certain adjustments with my handy screwdriver, Kailan was assured of his safety and climbed with some dexterity up the wall.  “Some” as in “not much”, but at least he didn’t fall.  After a few more times, it wasn’t too painful to watch him do it anymore.

Oh what a glorious day it was!  Now if he can attempt a little more coordination in his swimming classes he might not need to be taken out for private tutilage to help him catch up to the girls in his class.  I think it is a bane of most young men…they just haven’t figured out how to master their limbs yet. 😉
