I called the dentist this afternoon and got in shortly. The dentist was glad I decided to bring him in (and not listen to the on call dentist I will wager), because his teeth were fractured. If we left them in they could abcess and potentially harm his permanent teeth. The ones to the side are a bit loose, too, but they should hopefully firm up.
We went from the dentist to an oral surgeon who got most of the teeth out. There is a small bit of root in there right now that was next to his big boy teeth. He didn’t want to damage his permanent teeth by digging it out. It should come out when his other tooth is coming out or get reabsorbed. They wanted me to leave the room when they started to do the extraction. I just warned them about his low pain tolerance as I watched them fill up the needle. I was kind of glad not to be there, really. Poor guy was sniffling when I was asked back into the room. He did a good job and was quite brave throughout all of it. I’m just glad that is all done.
The x-ray showed his big teeth there under the surface. Now I know why he is all gums lately. Boy are those things big! Hopefully he won’t have to wait years before he gets the new teeth in…we hope.
I will spare you the more graphic color and close up shots. He’s got some bad bruising there, too, as you can probably tell. The one thing that really helped was the prospect of getting a suprise from the tooth fairy. We told him about the tooth fairy leaving him some money for his teeth and then he gets to choose two toys for two teeth at the store. Oh, that made him happy. I made him this little pillow to put his teeth in it tonight. This was definitely a quick project as I had two little kids staring at me the whole time…and it was bedtime. It needed to be quick!

Thanks everyone for the wonderfully nice comments you have left the past few days. I really appreciate them. I want a “do over” of the past few weeks. That would be nice to be able to do, wouldn’t it?
He looks great in gums! Cute pillow, too.
Oh sweetie – I am so sorry. I know it is tough watching your kids get hurt, then have it hurt more when they need to get “fixed”.
I am just glad that you got someone to actually look at it and do what was best for him. He looks like he is completely over it – I love the toothless smiles.
And the pillow is WAY cool! And I bet you whipped it up even faster than I can pull a post together 🙂
Praying for a better/easier week for you!
He is still a handsome little guy :o) and tell him to look at the bright side he doesn’t have to have BOTOX injections for that puffy look like all the stars… (although the injections would of probably been less painful..)
glad for him that the worst is over..
Seriously, Stacy – He looks really cute!!! The tooth fairy pillow was a great idea! I hope you get some rest now that the whole thing is over and I pray for a peaceful week ahead!!!
I am glad he is ok and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that those bog boy teeth come in sooner than later….he looks adorable btw and that pillow is priceless.
🙂
He looks really good, Stacy, thank goodness you took him to the dentist.
Oh my. I only have some words of encouragement for you. My sister and I were riding on my bike together when she was 2 and I was 11. We fell off. She took the full force of the handlebars in her mouth and smashed two of her teeth and loosened another. The next day they put her under a general to remove all three teeth and that was her smile for the next 3 years. At 5, on just about her first day at school, her new, big teeth came through. As they didn’t have to wear away any baby teeth there was nothing to stop them and they came in earlier than usual. The good news is that she now has absolutely beautiful teeth. They time and the trauma was awful and I still feel guilty when I see the pictures of her poor swollen little face 🙁 BUT it all turned out ok and is just a vague memory now. So be encouraged. He will probably have his big teeth in place in no time and you will once again she his full blown beautiful smile. Really feeling for you. xxx (and him!)
Oh, gosh, I feel queasy again. Poor poor little guy. But what a great momma to whip up such an awesome pillow for him.
He looks more mature, not really but still cute as ever.
You have had a hard week. Hopefully, it will get better from here. Kailan is so brave and I love the pillow!! I finally finished the twirly skirt and it’s up on my site today. Thanks again for the tutorial.
O my goodness!!!! Look at those beautiful gaps! Ha!!
Kailan, such a cutie he is! I love his tooth fairy pillow! Love it, Stacy! We have one, but it NOT as cool and boy as his!
So glad that all is well… yay!! Was praying for you….
Amy
Glad things worked out. He’s still as handsome as ever!
Oh dear, I’m so sorry he did end up having to lose the teeth! BUT, he looks totally adorable with his gap-tooth smile and I bet he’ll be bragging about the whole thing in no time! Plus, he got a really cool pillow out of the deal!
I’m crossing my fingers for an easier few days after all this, Stacy!
I have just been catching up and oh my, you have had a full plate of emotional stress! I hope that things are settling down and you get a bit of quiet time.
He still looks cute. My daughter lost one of her upper front teeth in an accident (not so much older brother helping her across a puddle in the street) when she was about 15 months old. She didn’t get her gap replaced until she was 5 and her adult teeth came in! It added a little something to all of her portraits!
So now he has a great story to tell!
What a Tropper, that had to of been an ordeal for all of you. What is that saying when it rains it pours. I am sending you nice quite, boring weekend vibes!
Tell K he looks awesome, toothless grins are all the rage.
The pillow was a wonderful idea. 🙂 I’m glad he was a trooper at the oral surgeon. I sure hope his adult teeth come in soon. I was wondering recently about W.W.’s big teeth too and when we might start seeing some of his get loose.
What a brave little boy. I love that you whipped up the pillow. :0) That must have been so fun for him.
