Now that Anya is in the Two’s Room at daycare she is part of the potty training ritual. At pre-set intervals in time, the mass of toddlers descend upon their miniature throne and take turns trying it out. Now Anya gets to participate in this, and while Kailan really didn’t do anything for a quite a while once he entered this room, his sister is another story.
She went on the potty 5 times on Friday! FIVE!! I am just not ready for this yet. I know it is still too early to say she is ready, since she’s only been in the room for 2 weeks. I just don’t want to have to constantly be on the potty watch again and make sure I have extra clothes and underpants at all times. Oh, and cleaning up pee in the carpet. There’s a reason we don’t have a dog right now.
Seriously, this whole potty thing is for the birds until they can really figure out their little bodies and understand when they have to go.
For instance, when we were coming home on Saturday night and were on the interstate, Kailan said, “My peepee coming out.” Uh, okay.
“Keep your peepee in Kai. Daddy will have to find a place to stop first.” We were just about to Minneapolis, and it really wasn’t a good area to stop. Luckily he made it another 15 minutes until we were able to stop so he could let his peepee free.
That is what worries me about potty training early. Is she going to be able to control her little bladder to that degree? With summer and frequent car trips coming, I don’t want to have to worry about it quite yet. Of course, there would be less clothes to clean, too. Hmmmm…
Guess we’ll just wait and see what the little princess has in mind.
Incidentally, the other night while I was putting her to bed I said, “Night, princess”.
She retorted with, “No mommy, not princess. I Anya.” She’s just too cute for words. 🙂
I am soooo not looking forward to potty training. I like Zoe’s diapers. They make life so easy. I did potty training while I was a nanny… and whenever I got bumped up to preschool when I worked with infants. I’m therefore not pushing the whole potty training thing. Zoe going to be 2 in June and is in a toddler program 2 mornings a week. They have the wee little toddler potty. They haven’t mentioned any interest… and I haven’t seen any… so I’m happy to wait. I know I’ve heard numerous times that summer is the best time to train though. Less clothes. More outside time. More chances for peeing to happen away from our carpet and our furniture. Anyway I look at it… I’m just happy with diapers for now.
I’m totally planning how I can get daycare to teach him and just support at home, but I’m SO looking forward to not buying diapers. And, hey–my dog used to pee in his cage and soak it up with his fur. Obviously, training was not easy. I figure if I can deal with the pee-dog, I can deal with J 😉
Ahh, yes. With the first one I was so ready for him to potty train that I pushed him too early. With the second I was aware of the challenge and if he hadn’t done it himself when he was two and a half, I’d have waited much longer. But having him train himself in less than 3 days was wonderful!
I’m reading for lots of advice. M won’t be two until October, but I was going to buy a potty for practice this summer. Maybe I should wait?
I think with first babies you are all excited to get them to use the potty and hit that milestone. With second babies you realize you trade in the diapers for constantly having to know where the nearest potty is AT ALL TIMES. If they are old enough to know the signs that they have to go to the potty, thereby giving you enough time to search for one before their bladder explodes, it is quite helpful!
Julie, your pee soaked dog made me LOL! Ugh, I can’t imagine.
Natalie, my advice would be to get one and just introduce it to her. She will see you on the potty and want to do it, too, so it is her personal potty just for her. Once she starts being truly interested in it and you notice her telling you that she wants to go potty and stays dry during naps, then start pushing it a little to see how she handles it. Don’t push too much! If they aren’t ready it will be hard to train them. We tried to push Kai at 2.5 and he just broke down sobbing anytime he got near the potty. This was after 2 whole hours of potty training. So, yeah…just wait until they seem to want it.
Oh, and Alissa…3 days??? Holy cow! I can only imagine how wonderful that was. 🙂
