A room full of two year olds!

Anya’s room at daycare has had a pet project for April.  They talk about their pets, how they should be taken care of and how to be nice to pets.  We were invited to bring our children’s pets into the room, as long as all of the parents signed a release form (just in case there were some kiddos with allergies).

So, on Friday I brought Kitty into Anya’s room.  Let’s just say it didn’t go too well.

First off, the cat carrier we have is too small.  Kitty was not really into being shoved into the little cage, and howled the whole 1 mile to daycare.  I brought the howling-someone-must-be-torturing-this-cat into daycare.  I took her out of her cage as the dozen or so two year-olds gathered and squeeled and pointed at Kitty.  Meanwhile Kitty took one look at that mass of children and bee-lined for the opposite direction.

I held Kitty on the floor on my lap, petting and soothing her, while the kids took turns petting her.  Oh, and squeeling that high-pitched little kid squeel.  Kitty was less than thrilled with that.

Did I mention that Anya was bawling the whole time.  I’m not quite sure why really.  Maybe because I was holding Kitty and not her.  Maybe because Kitty was upset.  Maybe because she didn’t want Kitty there.  Maybe because she is a toddler.  All of the above??  Probably.

Kitty grazed (as in barely touched) another little girl upon one escape attempt and you would think Kitty was an African Lion looking for her next meal.  Freak out crying!  Pretty much what Anya used to do when presented with any creature that walked on 4 legs.

I spent about a half hour holding, petting, and keeping Kitty from escaping while the little kids petted, screamed, squeeled and cried.  Sounds pleasant doesn’t it?  I think Kitty lost half her hair she was so nervous.  I left wearing a fur coat when I came in with a cotton t-shirt.

And I brought my camera to take pictures.  HA HAHA HAAA!  Yeah, that didn’t happen.

Not sure I will EVER do that again.  Kitty, Anya and I would not recount that as one of the better moments in our lives.  Yep, pretty dang sure that ain’t happenin’ again!
