Right?  It’s getting there.  Sloooowwwwwly but surely we will have some warmth.  In about 2 months.

I cut out these shorts late last summer, but never got around to making them.  They are from a Built by Wendy pattern.  The back flaps in the pattern are not real pockets, so I changed it by adding real pockets.  I also took  1.5 inches off the back inside leg seam, but I could have done more.  They are drafted for someone with considerable more booty than I. 😉  I also didn’t add the trim and loops on the bottom seam.  At that point I just wanted to be DONE, and a plain bottom hem was fine by me.

They were a bit of a pain to make, so IF I make them again there would be some changes.

  • First off, it is too low on the waist for me.  I would add at least an inch to the waistband.
  • I would take more off the back seam.
  • I would make the waist a bit tighter.  Its a little loose, which may be due to the stretch in this fabric.  I’m going to dry these in the dryer and hope they shrink a little.

I like how my pockets turned out.  Due to how I designed the bottom of the pocket, I made them completely lined.  I drew different designs on each one.  There are also two lines of patterns on each. One is machine stitched and one is hand stitched with embroidery thread.  It is hard to photograph cream on cream, but hopefully you can see it a little bit.

I can’t wait for warm summer weather!

On another sewing related note, I broke my serger this weekend.  Sort of.  Just so’s you know…going over a zipper with a serger is not a good thing.  Apparently my brain was temporarily dislodged from my head.  I actually bent the needle plate down, so all I needed was a new plate.  The wonderful sewing machine store repairman got it fixed for me while I waited over lunch yesterday.  Less than $30 later I was back in business!

Anya has another birthday party this Friday.  If I can get a purse done for me I might actually get a chance to make a summer dress for the little girl.  We’ll see.  I’ll have to check with Anya to see if she is one of the little girls that wanted a dress.  Otherwise, there’s always Target and a less stressful week for me. 🙂
