At the end of August we went up to Brian’s hometown to go to the annual city festival and visit with family.  To the little one’s delight, at his sister’s farm, they had a new batch of kittens.  This was, of course, the most exciting thing to happen that weekend.  The kids spent time petting and watching the little bits of fur dash about, and at times, hide from them.  They even got to name the three little kittens.

We made sure that Kailan didn’t stick his face in their fur, and that he washed his hands after the petting sessions.  His “4 out of 5” allergy to cats keeps him sniffling most days.  Fortunately, we have kept it mostly in check with allergy medication.  At his annual physical, the doctor prescribed him a nasal spray.  We aren’t sure that it is helping any more than the over the counter allergy medicine.

I’m sure if we didn’t have a cat in the house, he would have a harder time being around them.  We keep his door closed, so she doesn’t sleep on his pillow.    She does, if he leaves his door open during the day.

He really wants a dog, but that would surely put him over the edge (only a “3 out of 5” allergy).

I feel sorry for him, since he loves animals.  I know both children would love to have a dog like my sister’s little Jack Russel Terrier, Tipsy.  They love to play with her, and she is a nice small size with a ton of personality.

She almost makes me want to get a dog.  Almost. 😉
