You know how they say, measure twice and cut once?  Yeah, I need to listen to that.

I thought I might be able to squeeze a maxi skirt out of this green embroidered fabric, but alas I was about 1/3 of a pattern short.  Luckily I had a matching linen that I could use to piece it all together.  I ended up cutting and piecing together panels to get everything looking sort of matched up.  I used just about every piece of that green to get this skirt made.  I had a ribbon that matched the colors quite well, so I used most of  the roll on the skirt, too.

It is rather tight in the waist and a bit hard to get on.  I should have cut this waist on the bias.  Upon wearing it to work this week…it was too tight.  I will have to redo the waist on it, but luckily I have plenty of the striped linen left.  I think I was going to make a maxi dress with it, which is still a possibility.

This is a skirt that I have redone several times.  Each time it just hasn’t seemed quite right.  This is time #3 or #4.  Still not quite right, but better than the previous iterations (including a gratuitous hair shot!).

Here is a shirt using the ever popular trendy ruffled fabric.  This was from the box of one off runs and there was only a yard of it.   I was going to make something for Anya, but then got all selfish and made something for me instead.  I wasn’t sure how to hem it, so I just threw on some bindings at the arms and neck and didn’t hem the bottom.  The ruffle covers it up.    I made it long enough to go over leggings.  I thought it would need to be lined, but it seems like it is fine without a lining…I just can’t wear a red bra with it.  Darn. 😉

The sides even almost meet up…oh well, I tried!

This next shirt is another shirt based off a RTW one I had bought…then took back after I traced it.  It was a simple rayon tank shell for $50.

I am so glad I can sew.

The fabric came from the box of one-off runs, is rayon and was supposed to be a skirt for Anya.  She put her nose in the air and said the fabric was not her favorite, so mama got this one.  Worked for me, as it matched my turquoise tights I bought on clearance last Spring.  I only had one yard to work with, and that is about what this shirt took.

This has a self-faced top and the first time I have tried to do one like this.  I think it worked out pretty well considering I didn’t have any instructions to work off.  Ideally, I would have cut the facing on the fold, but I didn’t have enough fabric for that.  The facing is also interfaced.  The back neck and sleeves have bias binding on them.

Everything meets up pretty nicely.  The only problem area with this is that the gathering at the center neck is not exactly centered.  Oh well, at least the sides match! (Note blurry picture…my camera is not focusing very well AT ALL with my remote right now.)

Well, now I had best get Kailan’s vest and tie done for his 1st Eucharist.  We bought the pants and shirt.  There is only so much I will take on!
