Anya decided that she finally wanted to learn how to sew.  I asked her what she wanted to make and she said bike shorts and a top and then a skort and a top.  I told her we would start with the bike shorts and go from there.  Bike shorts are pretty easy, with just two pattern pieces, and the lesson didnt last very long.

Like I expected.

She was mostly watching me, putting her foot on the pedal while I guided the fabric, and took out some pins.  I wanted her to see how fast she needed to push the pedal and see how a whole garment was constructed.  Next time I will have her do the cutting and measuring start to finish on something like a pillowcase.

Hopefully, there is a next time.

Here are her shorts and her plan for the top.  She left that part to me.

The shirt she wanted was one that had a crop top on top of a longer short with everything attached at the shoulders.  I decided to cut up a shirt that I don’t wear anymore, but is a very nice cotton lycra fabric.  I kept the bottom hem for the new shirt’s bottom hem.

The pieces cut out.  I had to take out the embroidery, since it would be itchy on the princess.  This was hidden underneath the crop top, so not a big deal on having a seam there.

The remainders of the shirt

Completed with the crop top.  The shoulder, neck and arm seams are attached.

Worn the next day.  She thought the bottoms looked too much like jammies or underwear, which they do look a bit like it.  What can I say…the fabrics matched!  I told her next time we would pick a less jammie-looking fabric.
