So…basement DELAY. The guys can’t come back until the week AFTER Thanksgiving. Perfect. Next week is gun hunting season, so they want to stay close to home. Darn hunters!
I can’t put up any shelving, because there is no trim in the closets. My dining room is a complete mess with my sewing. I can’t really sew up the kids’ Christmas presents yet because they can easily come down the stairs after bedtime and see what I’m working on. We were also planning on ripping up and replacing the floor in our half bath off the kitchen. The toilet has been leaking for YEARS so the wood is discolored and getting pretty gross looking. We don’t want it messing up our new basement underneath it.
To top it off that week is Kai’s birthday. We have promised him that he can have friends over for his birthday this year, and he has been ever so excited about it. I can’t have strangers over to messy house with stuff all over the place. It’s too cold to shove them outside, so now what??
Ugh. Yes, I’m getting frustrated!
Now we need to decide what to do. Push off the bathroom until January maybe? They should at least be able to get the trim and doors in the basement that week and finish that up. We’ll only be waiting on the quartz for the wet bar and Brian can hook up the sink plumbing when that comes in. There is no guarantee that they can complete the bathroom, though. I am so ready to be DONE with this. I know delays are part of construction, but really this is getting ridiculous. If it weren’t for that #!*%@ of a plumbing inspector we would probably be done by now.
I want to be able to have my house in some order over the holidays. The Christmas decorations are all up in the attic in the garage and I can’t put them up until after the construction is done because there is NO PLACE to put anything. Seriously…I feel like crying. I won’t be able to put up my Christmas decorations until at least two weeks before Christmas, and it takes a whole day to do it. Not really worth it if I only have them up for a short time!
My Zen calm has left the building and is running screaming down the street. 😯
deep breaths, deep, calming breaths. it will all come together, it always does – right?
just take a look back on the great progress you have already made…and remember it is going to look so fabulous!
Oh yikes- so sorry.
I agree with Carrie – it will be amazing when it’s done. Don’t let it steal your holiday spirit! 🙂
What’s a Zen Calm???? *snicker*
Hope it gets better for you…
🙁 Hang in there, Stacy! Just keep chanting: “It will be worth it, it will be worth it, it will be worth it”…maybe that will help a LITTLE!
We have some upcoming remodeling to be done in our kitchen and the guy said, “So do you want your kitchen in December?” I said, “Uh, yes.” He said that the job would take 5 – 7 days (probably really 10) and it would be a mess. So we are waiting until after Christmas.
I hope your guys get in gear and finish up fast for you so you can decorate and move on!!!
Oh bless!!!!! NOT FAIR!!!!!! I know how you feel having once had a kitchen which took 11 weeks to be installed. 11 weeks of washing dishes in the bathtub. But over Christmas is really depressing. All I can say is…this too will pass. Not much help at the moment though is it?
Oh Stacy, I totally feel for you. Even though we were moving into new construction the DELAYS were insane, we were suppose to move in in Sept. and didn’t settle till last day of October. I still had un-open boxes at Christmas and did not really do much with the decorating for the same reason, by the time you put it up its time to take it down.
Deep breath! Call the Zen back if it will listen.
