Did I tell you all that we collect swords? We don’t collect battle swords or something as utilitarian as that…we prefer the ones that are more artistic.
Here a few of the nicer ones we own –
The first one is a Viking Seax (short, hefty blade of Damascus steel) and the handle is carved boar’s tusk. The second is a regular sword with leaping wolves and the hilt is onyx. We have a matching dagger. The third and fourth are a matching set (rapier and main gauche – also Damascus steel) of carved antlers with Jade insets. We bought all of them at a local Renaissance Faire…I think we may have been drinking at the time, too. 😉 The artist for the first, third and fourth one makes some very cool stuff…and was nice enough to offer layaway!
I don’t think I have to tell you that we made sure to check with our insurance to make sure these were covered if stolen. They are works of art, but dangerous ones. We have them up on the walls and on high shelves away from the kids.
I think when they get older and have friends over we are going to have a stern discussion with all of them about NO TOUCHY. I don’t mind if they want to look at them closer, so I know we will take them down for the kids to look at them…but no sword fights are to take place in our house. I have a feeling we may have to have them locked up in a safe for a few of those testosterone laden teen years.
What collections do you have to share today?
Testosterone laden teen years ! You are funny !! That totally made me laugh !! I am running out the door to soccer practice in a few minutes but was just checking to see if you’d posted your TT yet. I never know with the time difference. 🙂 ANYWAY. I love your sword collection ! I don’t collect much these days, well … dust in places I don’t photograph ! Not that anyone would want to see that anyway ! So … here’s my COLLECTION
well that’s very interesting. i don’t think i collect anything worth photographing.
Tee hee….yup, I think you might have to lock them up one day. Such an interesting collection, very cool.
My collection is up:

That is so cool! I definitely don’t have anything nearly as cool as that to collect…although I suppose it is never to late to start!

Very cool!!! I am not a collector – ha – but tried! 😉

It reminds me of the swords in the Gremlins movie! The ones that fall off the wall everytime someone walks in the house. Only yours are way cooler! 🙂 Seriously!

Our 17 year old had a set of Samauri swords and we were VERY clear that they were for display only. They sit way up high and he had never taken them down.
We also have enough collections around here I could document and I thought about them, but I went with a collection of pictures instead. After all, they were ready to go!
Here is my collection of – lemons.

I really don’t have any collections. I have lots of many things, but nothing I really collect. Hmmmm.
I can totally agree with the No Touching conversation, however. Andy is a policeman, remember? We do have an impressive collection of firearms. They are all locked in a gun cabinet, and the ammunition is locked up separately, but I’m sure that wouldn’t be too much of a deterrent for a determined 13 year old boy.
Wow – my husband would love that collection. I don’t really collect a lot of things although I guess you could consider my piles and piles of books a collection.
I decided on something different for this theme though.

Wow, those are beautiful (so ornate) Stacy. I love the compilation!
Here is our only collection (besides camera equipment):

Wow those are serious! This was a fun theme – I unfortunately had so much to do last night that I had to quickly shoot our collection this morning. It was early, and not very light yet…but it is up!
A Collection
I can’t wait to look at all these photos!!! 🙂
Great swords!
Here’s my collection: http://mommeeandherboys.blogspot.com/2008/03/theme-thursday-collagecollection.html
Wow! That’s an amazing collection. My husband would be so envious. I collect comic books and that’s not quite so impressive, especially visually.
My collage this week is a recap of easter. I haven’t had a chance to share yet, but my son got given 2 bunnies. WAH! We still haven’t gotten a bunny hut for them yet.

Nice collection!! We too have several swords- but my hubby tend to go for the more utilitarian models rather than the pretty, artsy ones I like. 🙂
Would you like to see a collection of my photography books? 🙂 Just kidding. The swords are actually worth photographing–very artistic indeed!
Stacey you frighten me with your bunny commentary. 😛 And yes I’m worried about the gender issue myself and suddenly having lots and lots and lots of bunnies we do not need.
PS thanks for the cheesecake tip!
What an amazing collection! I wouldn’t be able to have those up in my home, because Olivia would definately be trying to get those puppies down to “play” with!!! I’m a little late, but Violet just happened to get out one of her many collecions today, so I of course, grabbed my camera!
Violet’s gemstones collection
I’m not sure if mine just posted or not, I’m trying again! Love the sword collection!!!!
